This week ended with a harsh reminder of the absolute and superior power of Nature in our lives. Nothing I might seek to document or photograph about my rural life here in Texas matters right now. Torrential rains fell in the Texas Hill Country on ground so hardened by drought that it’s like concrete. Rain coming so fast and furious could not be absorbed. It ran straight into creeks, streams and rivers, building to create a force that moved everything – and everyone – out of it’s path. Fences, homes, bridges, businesses, camps and campers. Along the riverbanks, it was nothing less than shock and awe. Our thoughts and prayers remain with everyone affected. Our deep gratitude and thanks are extended to everyone who acted so selflessly and worked so hard to evacuate so many along the banks of the Guadalupe River, including more than 700 people at Camp Mystic alone. Finally, and with tearful heartache there are just not enough words of appreciation, blessing and support for those who have stepped in to search for and recover the missing victims.
